There was huge buzz on this trailer-only film. Well, I can see why it created buzz, anyway.
You can't beat the nifty wideness of the frame. Or the Batman statue. A Batman freakin' statue. The coffin is neat, too. (I'm not spoiling anything by telling you Batman is dead, it's practically the first thing mentioned.) But, geez, what a dorky painting they've hung up of him.
Why is Robin's costume's "R" done in a lame serif font? Honestly, the costumes in this project didn't work too well for me. Robin's red and yellow didn't need to be QUITE so red and yellow the way it was in the comics. Especially this Robin, who is older, wiser and less dorky. And Superman's costume is just plain embarassing, it looks like it was purchased at a costume store.
Anyway, what exactly is the issue at hand in this faux-movie being advertised? Okay, so Robin wants to follow in Batman's footsteps, great. But aside from that primary mission, why do we see eight billion villains? Are they all involved in a conspiracy?
On a positive note, I can't fault the editing in this movie, or the pretty closeup of the tight female behind in equally tight pants. There's a lot in this film to recommend it: the endlessly fun cameos, the stylish fight of Robin against women in Joker getups, the nifty lighting, the M reference (balloons), and did I mention the cameos? I think everyone you can think of in the DC universe is in there. It comes together with just the right rhythm of a trailer, and that alone shows filmmakers of promise.
