JABBA ON THE DAIS / WOOKIE
Jabba on the DaisWookie

These videos are similar enough in structure and quality to lump them together. In both cases, Matthew Beall and Petch Lucas have taken a simple idea and done it well: spoofing a pop song and displaying clips from the Star Wars movies to back it up. Frankly, a lot of fan-made music videos seem haphazardly thrown together, of the "Oh, that shot is cool, let's use that" variety. Not these.

It's the little touches I like. In Jabba, I like use of those cool Special Edition movie logos and how Sy Snootles' sound clip and Threepio's "Please!" are perfectly musically matched to the track (not that the other sound clips don't work well). In Wookie, the use of a comic book frame is a nice touch, as is the sped-up shot at 2:05.

In both cases, I appreciate the widescreen matte (which also makes it an easier download—marginally), inclusion of sing-along lyrics, and general craftsmanship.

In the end, it just comes down to what music you prefer, Falco or Fred. I like 80s music, so Jabba on the Dais gets my vote. (Besides, it's got Salacious Crumb!) But I enjoy them both—more than the original songs.

I want MP3s!
