BOUNTY TRAIL

This is a historical kind of fan film, one of the old school. It's Ben Fletcher's first "appearance". Its director, Justin Dix, went on to work on AOTC.

The flick itself… well.

The film is meant to be an adaptation of a fictional SW comic called "Bounty Trail", and considerable time is wasted on a fan going to a comic book store to buy this issue. For me, the device is cute, but just doesn't work.

Boba Fett doesn't turn up in too many fan films, because where are you going to scare up a good costume? This laid down the standard for a good fan film Fett. And he is kind of cool in this film—I especially like his closeups in the space chase. (And it's a good space chase, too.)

But what bugs me is that this doesn't seem to go anywhere. Boba and his captive go here, then here, then here. Even if this is a comic book, it's not a very well-plotted one. Things sort of happen, and in the end, I can't even remember what happened when.

When I watch AOTC, I always make it a point to watch for Justin Dix's name. I'm glad he moved on to bigger and better things. I just can't say I like this fan film much. It's almost ironic that it ends on an "open-ended note". If I didn't know full well that Boba lives and makes it to Jabba's palace, I'm not sure I would have cared.
